Network Solutions may still charge $35/year, but a a fully accredited Registrar like GoDaddy.com charges domain name registration fees that typically run about $7.95/year. ($6.95 during April)

Not money well spent if can't do anything at all with a domain name,
but cheap enough to sit on it if you have future plans.
