Re: Saga buys WIDE

Chris fondly recalled his days at WHYR (formerly WPIG 95.95 FM)
and then summed up his thoughts on WIDE with:
>> Look, I know that things can never be like they were, but even now they're better than they're about to be... <<

not really, Chris. the WBAE discount card is NOT promoted in four to five minute segments of ad lib-for-trade. that is what the midday portion of WIDE's programming has been. used to be once a month that the Hoy Family ran their auction. created rates at a dollar a holler, literally.
i don't fault Bart for doing what he needed to do to survive. i actually have long admired him. i worked with Bart when he was the WGAN chief engineer, and he had his "dream" on the wall... a simple sign with the letters "WPIG" and a picture of a pig. he signed on as a country station, and has made a go of for over twenty years.
but a four minute adlib for a $30 gift certificate to a restaurant is not good radio. disagree if you like, then program your next station in the same manner. write with your ratings/business success stories.
