Re: WXKS-AM

Aside from the ongoing cost of paying rent to WJIB and WNTN, the biggest
expense of this upgrade would most likely be preparing the applications to file
with the FCC. I still think that the entire non-recurring cost of the project
could be held to less than $25,000. Now, what would be a reasonable rent? Say
Bob and Rob Rudnick, who owns WNTN, could settle on a formula for the rentals
based on the transmitter power. WWZN reportedly pays either $20,000 or $25,000
per month to the owners of the Waverly Oaks Industrial Park for their 50-kW
station. That's either $.40 or $.50/watt/month. Suppose WXKS could get 10W at
each site. That would make the monthly rental either $40.00 or $50.00 at each
station. I doubt that Bob would think about such an offer for even two seconds--
but he probably would listen to an offer of $400 or $500/month. I've never met
Rob, but he'd probably listen to such an offer also. In the end, though, I
don't think either would accept.
