Re: college radio gone dark for summer?

The University of Southern Maine station WMPG has been effectively high
jacked by non-students. They even call the station Greater Portland
Community Radio. The station's studios have been moved from the Gorham
campus, where most resident students live, to the Portland campus, where
there are no dorms (other than one about a mile away on Congress Street).
Being a community station is probably a better use of the signal but the
largest source of funding for the station still comes from USM's student
activity fee, though it is hard for students to get on the air. There have
been efforts over the years to cut back on its funding but the station's
supporters have been effective at beating back such efforts in the Student
Senate.
