Re: Newton residents kick up fuss about 'WNUR' site expansion proposal
Years ago I was CE of 1510 with its notorious transmitter site in Waltham...we dealt with many different types of interference (we had a database in my 5 years there of over 2,000 RFI calls), the likes of which I've not seen at any prior station or any since.
While the link to this article didn't seem to work, I suspect that this is similar to something which we had seen back in Waltham where we dealt with water pipes picking up the signals and acting as a speaker through a heat radiator. I suspect that this is similar where the pipes are picking up the RF and they are "hearing" it out of the toilet. Poor solder joints in the plumbing can act as a "detector" and pick up an AM signal, as one example of a reason.
It's a strange phenomenon, but after my time at 1510, I am not surprised by ANYTHING I ever hear about with interference.
