Dale has an amazing recall ability (he's been tested for photographic memory at 
about 99 percent) that allows him to do an extremely descriptive play-by-play.  
plus, he still brings that "i get PAID to do this?" exuberance into the booth.

i had the privledge of being his Mariner's producer back in the 80's, and even 
did his Devils network production (spots, opens/closes, etc) for a season or 
two.

and i enjoyed his play-by-play of the game yesterday.  the actual action of the 
game, however?  can't blame the messenger for that one.
