New Radio Home For The Lowell Spinners

Today's (5/10) Lowell Sun reports that WCAP (980 Lowell) and the Lowell
Spinners have reached an agreement for broadcast rights for the 2003 season.
All 76 of the Spinners' games (38 home, 38 away) will be broadcast live.
This marks the return of the Spinners to a radio station actually licensed
to Lowell, the last few seasons they were on WCCM when they were at 800 and
pretending to be a Lowell station.

The Spinners move to WCAP also means a change in the play by play chair.
Ryan Johnston, WCAP's PD and award winning voice of the Lowell Lock
Monsters, will take over the Spinners play by play duties. He will be only
the second play by play voice in the team's history. Bob Ellis has handled
those duties the first 7 seasons, first on WLLH then on WCCM. It is unknown
at this time who or if there will be a color commentator with Ryan Johnston.
Chaz Scoggins of the Lowell Sun had been the color commentator for the past
few seasons with Bob Ellis.

Good to see that the Spinners and WCAP came to an agreement to get the
games on the air, especially with the season set to get underway just over a
month from now (June 17 is the first game of the season). WCAP now has more
of a sports presence with the addition of the Spinners, which is a good
marketing tool for the sales staff to run with, and with the season just
weeks away, they have to run fast!! Also, a win for Spinners fans who will
now be able to hear the games in LeLacheur Park (Spinners' home field) after
dark on the Walkman for the first time in several seasons!!
