Fred Hoey, with whom Shepard had a love/hate relationship, was sometimes
sober and sometimes not. But Frankie Frisch did the Colonial broadcasts
and Fred Hoey the Yankee ones for at least one year in the late 30s, till
Frankie wanted more money and then Shepard had Hoey broadcast for both
teams... I have the articles about this somewhere... I also have a Radio
Annual from 1939 that doesn't list any Portland affiliate either-- it has
WLBZ in Bangor and WRDO in Augusta as Colonial affiliates. Based on the
number of stations Kevin listed, I would say your ad is from 1936 or 37--
in 1939-40, there was 18 Colonial stations.
