Correct. It's probably the same as CBS, NBC, Fox, UPN, WB-11, etc.
As far as I know, TV stations need relay stations after X amount of
distance. I'm sure the mountains in the area would be partly responsible
for that.
I guess in this case "station" is synonymous with "network," especially if
the individual relays don't have slots for local or regional variations
like the national stations here in the USA; but it's very probable that
whatever is transmitted on -- say -- Channels 5 and 9 in Baghdad are
retransmitted on Channels 42 and 22 in Basra, for instance.
This is what the BBC-TV does. The numbers you set your TV set's dial to
in London are not the same if you are watching TV in
Hereford, for instance. The UK uses the UHF band for OTA terrestial TV
exclusively, by the way.
I personally use the terms station/network interchangeably when referring
to Channels: 2 CBS, 4 NBC, 5 Fox, 7 ABC, 9 UPN, 11 WB, 31 Pax TV, 41
Univision, 47 Telemundo and 68 Telefutura.
