Don't call 'em "oldies"?
Noticed in the new NorthEast Radio Watch that
Providence's B101 is no longer using the word
"Oldies" as part of their nickname. Now it's "Big Hits
of the 60s and 70s". Up north, Rochester NH's WQSO
96.7 refers to themselves as "the Wave" and the word
oldies has also been banished.
Wonder if/when WODS will also drop "Oldies" from its'
nickname? Probably they won't, but who knows...They
say "The Greatest Hits of the 60s and 70s" but still
use "Oldies 103.3" in their jingles and it's all over
their website.
But some stations seem to feel that "oldies" means
"those same tired old hits of the past". That doesn't
necessarily mean that it's so, but maybe some people
get that idea.
"Those oldies but goodies, remind me of you..." :)
