A reply to my post about WBOQ on radio-info.com's
Boston board by "Mark" (I assume it's Mark Shnyder of
Boston Radio Watch) clarified things a bit: He said
that beginning in 1974, some people challenged the
license of what was then WVCA, owned by Simon Geller.
They lost their license in '82 but it was under
appeal; the decision to revoke WVCA's license was 
overturned in 1985.

So the station _was_ licensed, but they nearly lost
it (ultimately the federal appeals court allowed
'VCA to keep its license).
