I worked for Doug Tanger when he owned WCLZ. He had apparently been trying
to convince Mr. Geller to sell WVCA for several years and had been
unsuccessful in getting him to sell. He finally gave up and bought WCLZ.
Only a few months after Tanger bought WCLZ, Mr. Geller decided to sell.
Tanger ended up selling WCLZ as a result.

In those days, it usually took about six months for a station sale to close.
When the sale was announced, WCLZ was making money and Tanger wanted to see
that continue and for the staff to stay until the sale closed. He offered
all full-time employees bonuses if they stayed through the sale. Mine was
equal to 6 weeks salary. I thought it was a classy and smart thing to do.
It certainly made working through that interim period a lot easier.
