I believe, although can't give any specifics off the top of my head, that
several attempts have been made over the years to do exactly what you
describe. In each case they were shot down as such a precedent would
directly interfere with a defendant's (or for that matter, a plantiff's)
right to legal representation....since in that case (for example) an
obviously guilty client would have a REAL hard time getting a lawyer crazy
enough to defend him/her. Or the "Erin Brockovich" case never would have
happened either.
