Radio Announcers, Jingles & short i

I've noticed over the past 3 or 4 months that announcers
on Boston radio increasingly use the "short i" instead
of the schwa sound. Examples:

Plim-ith
Kin-ven-shin
Kin-eti-kit
Paula-tish-in
Court Dock-it
Govern-mint
Ad-min-is-tray-shin

And the commercial jingle that sings (oh so plainly)
Twin-Brook In-Shur-Intz

Is this a regionalism? A national thing? A trend?
A bad thing?
