Today (12/17)the Globe's Mark Jurkowitz had a story about the Black Entertainment Television cable
channel cutting WAY back on expenses by paring public information
shows and going nearly all-entertainment.  B.E.T. is owned by Viacom, parent
of CBS, so the pattern persists.  By this time it is probably off the
boston.com website, so you may have to acquire the deadtree version if you care
to read futhah (a little southern lingo).
