Re: Layoffs at Maine Public Broadcasting?

Today's Portland Press Herald says the budget gap for the current fiscal year is
$250K; a drop in state appropriations and falling donor revenue are blamed.
Seems like MPBS is finally owning up to the fact that many former viewers are
watching cable for their documentary/nature fix (kinda gives the lie to the
notion of "If PBS doesn't do it, who will," eh?) Oh well, at least they still
have no competition for Lawrence Welk. :) MPBS has 170 employees; certainly a
good number of them are expendable (the chop is expected in February if it
happens at all.) How long before they hold a gun to Big Bird's head again as
they did with the DTV scam they pulled a couple of years ago?

Take care,
Chris
