Happy 500th Broadcast MNF!

This past Monday's [11/11/2002] Broncos - Raiders football game marked
the 500th broadcast of ABCs Monday Night Football.

MNF, was originally brought to fruition by then NFL commissioner Pete
Rozelle,
and the deservedly (IMHO) legendary Roone Arledge who was head of ABC
sports at the time.

The first Monday Night game broadcast was September 21, 1970.  ABC's
broadcast team for the debut were: Keith Jackson, Howard Cosell and
ex Dallas Cowboys QB 'Dandy' Don Meredith. The game was a NY Jets
Cleveland Browns contest.

After the 1970 season of MNF ABC replaced Keith Jackson, with Frank Gifford.

The Frank Gifford, 'Dandy' Don Meredith, and Howard Cosell MNF broadcast
team
was the best ABC ever put together, IMHO.
