The secret life of "Butch on the Cape"

On his web page, writer Mark Sullivan posts a year-old _Hartford
Courant_ story about legendary talk-show caller "Butch on the
Cape", who turned out to be a gambler, con man, and informer who
played the marks, the bookies, the cops, and the wise guys for
fun and profit.  

I didn't know any of it before, but for Sullivan, it's a 
cautionary tale of how you never really do know somebody just 
from his media image.
