No, people listening in mono would hear only material that was on only one
channel or the other. Anything common to both channels becomes phased out.
In other words, mono listeners would hear only sounds that were on the
right OR the left stereo channels ONLY, nothing that was on both at once.
Mono listeners would hear only the difference between the two channels,
not the sum.
