Eagle Tribune Costa/Eagle Flip Flop Article
Today's Lawrence Eagle Tribune on line edition has an article that states
the Costa/Eagle radio flip flop took place at 12:01 AM today. In addition to
detailing who went where, Costa/Eagle CEO Pat Costa tells the paper that
this station flip flopping was strictly "a business decision" to enable the
Spanish music format on 1110 to move to what he calls the "premium" 800
location. He also assures WCCM listeners of the news/sports talk format that
they have little to worry about, all programming and hosts will remain on
WCCM's new home at 1490 and will continue their commitment to Greater
Lawrence and the Merrimack Valley. Obviously, what the article doesn't
mention what us folks on the list already know: the 1490 signal isn't as
strong in Lawrence as the 800 signal. 1490's day signal will be OK by day in
Lawrence, but not much use at night.
One more note: With the switch now complete, both of the AM signals
licensed to Lawrence are Spanish, and there is no more "local " English
radio serving Lawrence. The lone FM licensed to Lawrence, WQSX 93.7 only
mentions the city of license once an hour, if you call a barely
unintelligable quick "WQSX Lawrence/Boston" buried between spots in a stop
set around :50 past the hour a mention.
