And God knows WBUR airs A LOT of the BBC. :-)
It's not dissimilar to the substantial ratings boost WBUR got during the Gulf War when they first started airing the BBC in earnest.

That may have something to do with it, but I believe that once found listeners are staying for much more than the Beeb. And considering the fact that WBUR doesn't do any outside advertising to speak of I really believe it's a matter of providing the market with something that is lacking because commercial stations don't want to go there. The news, even local news on WBUR is a different animal than you get on WBZ in both style and content, ditto (to steal from Rush) for the talk shows on most stations in the market, even if you don't believe the hosts are right (see any posting on Camera) they are presenting their views in an intelligent manner that you can debate.
