I say quite the opposite.  The public as a whole can be counted on to react 
only to extremes, and even then only when they happen quickly.  If you 
think the kind of drivel O&A dished out every day ought to stopped, then 
there are at least three dozen stations out there with EXACT CLONES of them 
doing just as nasty bits as they did.  They're just in smaller markets that 
don't get the media coverage.

If you want them stopped, a strong upper hand from the FCC is the only way.

Granted, there's a lot more that comes with that strong upper hand...and 
not to say I'm necessarily in favor of it...
