The FBI reports that there are actual fewer stranger
abductions of children this year than in past years. 
The media has just jumped on the story due to some
extreme circumstances (i.e., nighttime abduction from
a home).  Last summer was the summer of sharks, this
summer was the summer of abductions.

I don't mean to minimize the tragedy involved in any
of these cases.
