WMWM is licensed for a mighty 130 watts, and our
transmitter says we're at 10 per cent of that right
now. (The "remote transmitter" is in the studio
location, at Salem State's Campus Center, while the
actual transmitter is in a locked room on the
penthouse, just above the fifth floor, of Meier
hall at SSC.)
Despite being at reduced power, the signal reaches
those towns I mentioned; as you head north, WNEF
overpowers it. If you were on Rt. 128 (heading south,
or more accurately, west) near the exit
for Rt. 1-A (and then the exit for Rt. 62), WNEF
seems to win the battle, but as you move into Danvers
and Peabody, WMWM comes in stronger, etc.
WMWM reaches much of the North Shore when at full
power, though we lost a lot of the northern edge
when WNEF came on. We're surrounded on all sides:
WMFO and WJUL at 91.5, WNEF at 91.7, and WUMB-FM
at 91.9, thus limiting our signal. But when at full
power, I've picked up WMWM as far as Concord, the
Tobin Bridge, and Wilmington.
