WROR liner, "Greatest Rock Ever Made"
For awhile, it looked like WROR would be playing
pop/rock hits of the 60s and 70s...and before long
people noticed that they accented the rock edge. You'd
hear the Doors but not Abba, Aerosmith but not Air
Supply. Now WZLX PD Buzz Knight has gone over to the
Greater Media station, and when one of the local
papers asked him last week if WROR was headed toward
"classic rock", he admitted that it was.
They _were_ using the slogan "The Greatest Hits of the
60s and 70s", which sure sounded weird after they
would play two songs from the _80s_, like "Born in the
USA" or "No Reply at All". Now I'm hearing them using
the liner/slogan "The Greatest Rock N Roll Ever Made".
So it looks like classic rock is indeed where their
sound is going (and I guess that was no secret, as it
had been rumoured...) That slogan is probably a good
idea, as they're no longer confining themselves to
those two decades (though much of their playlist does
come from the "Beatles to MTV" era).
Their website still says "Greatest Hits of the 60s and
70s", along with pictures of the Beatles, Bruce
Springsteen, Elton John, Foreigner, etc. Wonder if
that will be changed to the new slogan...
