NPR announces demise of (apparently) long-deleted public AM station

NPR's Weekend Edition Sunday opened today with the
announcement of the demise of public radio stations KFJM
and KFJM-FM Grand Forks ND, the victim of budget cuts at
the U of North Dakota, which operated what the report
suggested were "the stations," but what in recent years
has apparently been only "the station." The FCC FM
database lists a KFJM (FM) 90.7 in Grand Forks (2.4 kW
at 47' AAT). No doubt, there once was a KFJM (AM), but
there is none in the AM database and most likely has not
been one for years. Probably, the University put out a
news release that described the station's history, which
includes broadcasts of polka and big-band music as well
as farm reports, and someone at NPR misinterpreted the
release to the effect that the AM station has been
operating up to the present. Apparently not.
