   Channel 5's sports segment during the 11 PM news had a couple of clips of
Ned: his calling the Sox clinching the AL East pennant in 1986 (IIRC, that
was during WSBK's run of Sox games), Carl Yazstremski's 3000th career hit,
and a spetacular play from the late 70's (judging by the hairstyles I saw)
which featured his trademark "Mercy" at the end of the play.

   I recall his radio days on WHDH. IIRC, he was paired with the late Jim
Woods on WITS in the mid 70's when they had the Sox. He later did TV
exclusively, on Channel 38 and ended his 31 years of calling Sox games with
NESN in 1992.

    And to think, he was sitting at home plate in Fenway Park just last
night reminiscing about Ted Williams. One never knows.......
