Response from Bruce Schwoegler

As I mentioned earlier.....I took the liberty of forwarding Donna's recent
question about what Bruce Schwoegler was up to on to Bruce. He answered
back to both Donna and myself.....I think he assumed Donna would post it
here....but since it hasn't come through yet (at least not through my
mailbox) I take the liberty of posting it to all now................

Gary F. called my attention to this board after a long absence on my part.
Appreciate you asking about me and thanks to Bill O'Neill for kind comments.
After 10 months "on the beach", seems like TV, especially local news, is a
distant world. Rarely watch except for HBO type offerings.

Is bizarre in that I am constantly getting people approaching me with "we
enjoy watching you" or with comments about missing me doing weather and the
extra science/tech stuff I added. Must confess that I do miss the job and
many co-workers who continue to call offering support. Loss of creative TV
weather/science outlet is more vexing than loss of paycheck.

Have been exploring several TV jobs here and elsewhere, but depressed state
of biz and other opportunities find me focused in new directions. And wow,
have I met a lot of people.like me in their 50's.who are asking what
life/jobs are all about!! So I might go back to TV after leaving at the top
of my game, but who knows? Got very high numbers before I left, and some
operation might consider that valuable. BTW, erroneous Globe report that I
"retired" does not compute. Too young, too poor and too excited about what
lies ahead!!

Primary thrust is MySky Communications, Inc. which has about 15 people
working to commercialize exciting MIT technology that has been under
development for 10 years. We are ready to roll, but lost a big money option
with a Philly group so the scramble for first round funding is again
underway. Very optimistic, but these are tough times for startups. Can't
go into details, but MySky could change the whole weather game utilizing all
sorts of new communication tools married to innovative, exclusive MIT
weather projections that are extremely accurate, precise and timely.
Nothing like it exists. In short, MySky has achieved a technology transfer
that will facilitate weather risk management for all endeavors with a high
return on investment, personal gain and safety.

Now, to non-competes which I helped promote and lobbied with AFTRA for. In
MA, they only fail to apply if YOU are LET GO. After all, that is an
admission by your employer that you are not welcome/worthwhile or whatever.
If YOU BOLT, then the non-compete holds. I think most people would consider
that fair. With all the merging going on, fewer job opportunities with
distinct employers exist in each market. If a company dismisses you,
finding a job is hard enough without the added burden of not even being able
to work in your profession.

Sorry for the long post, but believe I have made up for the extended
absence.

Regards,

Bruce
