Daniel Pearl is dead but it's Sunday so let's not report it
We may be an internet culture, but my quick "whip around the world" to see
which websites had this breaking story showed that Boston.com didn't post
it till almost an hour after the ABC news report was aired on WBZ Radio (I
was in phone contact with boston.com several times). For obvious reasons,
ABC news had it posted first, but most other websites had big SuperBowl
articles (and hey I am a Patriots fan too!) but only yesterday's
news. Neither the NY Times nor the LA Times' websites had the story during
the numerous times I checked. Even the Wall Street Journal, for whom Mr
Pearl worked, had no updates. Evidently due to budget cutbacks, doing
breaking news stories is a low priority on weekends. CNN Headline News did
break in (looked videotaped to me) over their 3.30 newscast with a report,
but nearly everyone in web-news seems to wait for the AP to move the story,
which as of 3.50 pm, they hadn't done.
