Re: Jack Lawrence
The 90's specialty shows are already starting to pop up.
WLAN/Lancaster, PA (a CHR) occasionally does "all-90's weekends" Their
list includes everything, from Wilson Phillips to Stone Temple Pilots to
Notorious BIG. For the most part, the songs are from the earlier end of
the decade and they do lean pop, but WLAN isn't afraid to play some of
the extremes, which makes sense because that's what popular music was in
the 90's--a blend of pop, r&b, alt-grunge-rock and rap/hip hop.
WBMX/Boston does a "90's at 9" feature at night, and their list is
obviously more pop and modern ACish. WFNX has also started to play more
90's alternative in their "Leftover Lunch" feature. If some of these
specialty shows start to take off in popularity, the all 90's 24/7
formats won't be too far behind. However, there aren't a lot of these
shows out there right now, so it's too early to be thinking about an all
90's format--at least on terrestrial radio. There is a 90's format on
XM, and Sirius is expected to have one as well.
