No, nothing can be worse than 1997.
The constant debates about Parcells staying, Parcells going, Parcells
selling his condo in Wrentham. Sports-talk show callers berating Bob Kraft
for driving Tuna out of town. And the topic didn't stop for well after
Parcells held his sham resignation press conference one week later. The
whole stadium issue hanging over South Boston. This will be a walk in the
park compared to the constant media-beating-you-over-the-head with the
Patriots schtick. Surprisingly, I don't think there was much talk about
media hype on here when the Patriots went to the Super Bowl in '97, so maybe
it wasn't so bad back then.
Going back to sports for a bit, it would be nice to see the Patriots
actually win the Super Bowl -- it's been nearly two decades since a metro
Boston franchise won a title in anything and since then the city's been a
sports hell, from the Bias death to the Sox taking the gas pipe in '86 to
Parcells leaving town. The fans deserve something positive.
