That's probably the case. (by the way, my car has
a Philco stereo in it-- orig. equipment for a
'96 Ford. Reception hasn't been all that bad and
yes, it probably does default to mono to give
a clearer signal.

Again, it seemed to be in stereo their first few
days but now I'm picking them up in mono (around
the Beverly area, on my car stereo).
