A few years ago, there was a relatively sizable article in the Parkway/West Roxbury Transcripts dealing withzip code descrepancies. Apparently, post office and Boston Redevelopment Authority 'borders' seperating West Roxbury and Roslindale were an issue. Some homeowners who were considered West Roxbury residents by the post office and Roslindale residents by the BRA (or vice-versa) were bitching about the 'border' (which for all practical purposes is non-existent), since having a West Roxbury address was better for the value of their property.

To take this in a slightly different direction: Nearly 10 years ago, there was a relatively well-publicized domestic violence murder in an area near the Boston-Brookline border. The woman had been trying to hide from her significant other and was staying with friends in an apartment complex. I guess someone had called 911 to request police to come out to the area. Even though the complex was in Brighton, the 911 call was routed to Brookline's 911 center, and Brookline's police department would not respond. Maybe Counselor Ross remembers the case of which I speak and can inform us of the particulars.
