Radio Stations in Subsections?

The question was raised about radio stations in subsections
of cities, such as "South Paris" Maine...
any station identifying itself as Hyannis does this because
it's a neighborhood in Barnstable (also true of West Barnstable).
The AM station in Wickford, RI is long-gone, but wasn't that a part
of a bigger place: Kingston perhaps?
Some of the FMs in Scott's recent tower site of the week
about the rural network mentioned places that may not have been
full municipalities. And something tells me that among
the thousands of AMs on 1230, 1240, 1340, 1400, 1450 and 1490
there are more than a few villages and neighbohoods.
