I believe he had been battling health problems for much of the past 10
years. I worked the board at WJDA one summer eight or nine years ago; don't
remember much about Roy, though his voice was definitely booming. Both he
and Al Needham, who was at WESX for what seemed just as long as Roy was at
WJDA, defined the Ashers' stations.
