Another factor, Hakim, is that after the
Sony debacle with Beta tape, manufacturers realize if they make
the hardware affordable, then are
going to sell software...lots of it.

Marketing 101.  Of course they knew
this - but greed being a factor they
wanted top dollar for the hardware
and top dollar for the software.

We all got VHS forced on us for
decades when Beta was superior
