Somewhat related: Last Tuesday or Wednesday, late morning, WDRC-FM in
Hartford went into the beginning of "New York Mining Disaster" by the Bee
Gees and after a few seconds dumped out of it and went straight to another
song. I'm a little slow, but Howard Glazer pointed out later that it must
have been because it popped up on the computer rotation but then someone
realized it wasn't a good song for right then. I just thought it was
another of the increasing number of mistakes like that I've heard recently
on what *always* has been a real tight sounding station. Maybe they got a
*better* computer :) But that's another thread . . .
IMO, there's a difference between short-term pulling of songs that might
not be appropriate and permanently deleting them. As the week went on, WDRC
was tuning its song mix to the situation and the mood. It also had
straight-ahead add-ons resulting from the disaster. The c&w song "Proud to
be an American" was being played a lot, etc., and there was a mix of news
sound bites over "America the Beautiful" by Ray Charles that they were
wearing out. Someone on Sunday afternoon was doing some interesting things.
I recall a straight segue from "All You Need is Love" to "I Say a Little
Prayer" that was part of what seemed like at least a whole hour along those
lines.
