Re: Trojan ads
Dave: you're a prude.
(you asked, and well, anyone recovering from eye surgery
should get that which he's asked for... ;-) )
I do not disagree at all that there are times of day
when topics and advertisements should be carefully
screened. As an "old" A/C jock, it pains me much to
even hear the word "multiple orgasms" on the radio, let
alone not having it associated with my name...
I've told several General Managers up here in Maine
that a RadioDisney outlet would be not only appreciated
up here in Portland, but would probably, in less than a
fortnight, take control of the market. The "grown up"
aspects of what now passes for morning drive fodder have
me tuning in scratchy reception of AM 1260 during the
day, and the wonderful night skip of AM 1560. i have 3
kids. my oldest, a 17 year old young woman, for
whatever reason finds JJ's 95.9 to her liking. I keep
asking her from whence her inner-city urban angst
comes... my other two, however, will suffer the static
and enjoy the Disney programming.
message to radio outlets and owners everywhere: The
operators of stations such as Bob Bittner's WJIB/WJTO
and RadioDisney will be the beneficiaries of your short-
sighted research and focus groups. it is time for you
to put your trust back into the hands of your program
directors. if you do not trust your p.d., and insist
that he/she follow the dictum of the consultant, then
fire her/his ass and get a new car with the money you'll
save. to actually let he/she think that she/he is
programming your station is a cruel, cruel joke. you
bought the consultant. let him/her/it write the
freakin' programming memos and line up the part-timers.
that's what you are paying it/her/him for. then they
can sit in a very silent laundromat in Lowell and watch
the dryer spin, wondering what it was they did wrong.
(damn, did you see that seque there... i still got it)
