WMTW call letters (was Re: NERW 5/7: Farewell, old CHUM)

The call letters were also the original call letters for the station now
called WHOM. According to the History of Maine Broadcasting book put out by
the Maine Association of Broadcasters several years ago, WMTW-FM was put on
the air on June 11, 1958 by the then owners of WMTW-TV. The books points
out that it was odd for a TV station to create a new radio station. At that
time, radio station owners were creating TV stations.

When were the WMTW call letters on 1490?
