New Down-East Country semi-station

A new FM station for Down-East Maine?

Well...,sort of. WALZ-FM 95.3 Machias is now broadcasting separately
from WQDY Calais between 6-11AM weekdays.

Saw an item last week in the local Machias Valley News Observer about
the new morning announcer and have been listening to it this morning.
It's definitely "Classic Country" 70's/80's hits.. Willie Nelson, Dolly
Parton, Waylon Jennings, etc. They are IDing as "Classic Country Z-95.3"

Don't know if they plan to expand their schedule, but should take a
trip down there later this week or next and check it out. Their studios
are located in a small house at the WALZ FM transmitter site atop
Pumpkin Ridge, elevation about 300', off Route 1-A in Marshfield, just
about a mile from the Machias town line.

Sure enough, at 11:00AM they went straight back to WQDY simulcast with
"Classic Hits 92.7/95.3."

No sign of WBEO FM 101.1 also licensed to Machias, whose Construction
permit exprires next month according to FCC DataBase. Heard "thru the
grapevine" that the owner is going to let it expire due to lack of
finances and poor local economy.
