Elian = ratings

No surprise that TV and radio are going full tilt on
the Elian Gonzalez situation. On TV, local channels
and the national news networks are offering all sorts
of news, talk, and analysis. As for talk radio, WRKO,
WTTK, WBZ, and WMEX are all over it.

On Saturday WRKO's Goldman and Maroney (two political
consultants normally heard from 10 am to 1 pm) stayed
on until 6 pm, doing an eight-hour shift instead of
their usual three. Similarly, Blute and Moes (also
on WRKO) stayed on until noon today (so much for
Dr. Laura), another marathon shift. Certainly if the
interest in Elian is out there, you'll get more
of the same. I'm not sure if this is a ratings period
or not, but TV news and talk radio are sure to get
a big ratings "bump" over this.
