Alex Dreier, RIP
Alex Dreier, who had a nightly presence on ABC's Newscope in the
1960s---"Alex Dreier News and Commentary"---died Sunday at the age of 83 in
California. Dreier, whose delivery was so rich that he was known as "The
Voice," will be remembered for an award-winning commentary on the plight of
the Jews that he delivered after the 1967 Six-Day War. His career stretched
back to coverage of Nazi Germany, from which he was expelled with other
Western journalists in 1941. From the late 1940s to the mid 60s, he was
based in Chicago, first with NBC, then ABC. He moved to Los Angeles in
1967, and retired in 1992.
