As a former volunteer, yes WICN has a  directional signal with a strong null
towards Boston and the NE.  I was told this was instituted to avoid problems
with WZBC (90.3) and WBUR (90.9).  WICN currently runs with 8100 ERP, but
was at the same site with 2000 watts (also directional) until the early 90s.
Actually there were a few years in between when they got evicted from the
Channel 27 tower and broadcast a non directional signal with around 3000
watts from a former windtower at the New England Science Center.
Back in the 80s when I was doing overnights it was not unusual, even with
the directional 2000 watt signal, to get calls from Central NH, Boston,
South Shore, and even sometimes Vermont...Of course this was prior to every
other station getting a handfull of repeaters/translators which subsequently
has reduced the signal in these "fringe" areas.
