As Don Kelley mentioned, you may be thinking of WHEB. Details of its
toasting on March 8, 1962 appear in Ed Brouder's book Granite and Ether:
A Chronicle of New Hampshire Broadcasting, including a picture on page
45 that evokes a mighty smoky smell.

Funny you should ask now. On Saturday I came across some 1983 issues of
the MPBN Radio (as it was then) member newsletter. From the May 1983
Airplay: "This is a special message for all our radio members in the
WMEA, 90.1 MHz, Portland, signal area--some of whom are still without
MPBN Radio. On March 11, WCSH-TV tower on Winn Mountain, Sebago,
crumbled under stress from ice. Unfortunately for MPBN and many of its
listeners, the WMEA antenna had also been mounted on that same 1200 foot
tower and MPBN went off the air in southern Maine for five days. On
March 16, we returned to the air with low power from a temporary antenna
mounted on a 65 foot telephone pole."
