Milton Berle used that joke in the 1950s.  He did a show in which he 
inadvertently ran up a big debt in a poker game with some people who were 
going to =enforce= the debt if he didn't pay up.  He said, "Then on my 
next show, I'll say 'This is the Buick-Berle Show, coming to you dead from 
New York!'"
