Re: WPTR's signal?
Rick, in the first chapter of "The Spy Who Loved Me," the Canadian heroine
(Vivienne Michel) is listening to WOKO on the radio while in either Lake
Placid or Lake George -- I can't recall which and I can't find the book
right now, though I *think* it's Lake Placid. The station's specifically
named, and my guess is that Fleming or a friend of his listened to it on
vacation somewhere and put that in the book for local flavor, though who
knows.
"Spy" was first published in 1962.
This was meant to be at least half tongue-in-cheek, for a reference in a
Bond book by a Britisher isn't the best source of accurate radio
information.... :)
