New Year's Eve TV Coverage

I was watching ABC's coverage of New Year's Eve in Times Square this year
with Dick Clark hosting. Unless I missed something, it appeared that they
didn't actually show Dick Clark until *after* midnight. During the entire
build-up towards midnight they didn't do the usual cutaways of him on top
of a theatre marquee or a rooftop. All they had were various shots of the
crowd with his voiceover. Was Mr. Clark hunkered down in the ABC armored
vehicle waiting to cover the big boom? I didn't see him on camera until
about 12:15AM.

Did anyone else notice this or have any background on it?
