WCLZ off cable
On the Casco Cable system that serves the Bath/Brunswikc area, the public
access channel is Channel 13. Most of the time the channel features a
bulletin board of local events and for at least 15 years the sound track
running along with the bulletin board was WCLZ. I guess that WCLZ was
included because it was the "local" station and it has lasted through various
formats, owners and the station physically moving to Portland. The cable
companies pays little attention to the bulletin board, often continuing to
run messages weeks after events have happened and sometimes the channel goes
more than a day with nothing on it and today the computer has been stuck on
the same slide all day. They must have got complaints about the countdown
stunt now running on WCLZ because after less than a day of the countdown WCLZ
was pulled. Yesterday, the bulletin board had no soundtrack and today a
barely audible feed of Maine Public Radio has been added. I wonder if WCLZ
will return when the new format debuts on Monday?
Since WJTO is now the only radio station actually operating in the
Bath/Brunswick service area, they should pick up the station. It would
greatly improve the stations nighttime coverage area. But then again, Casco
Cable would not be able to pick up the station at night even though they are
located only a few miles from WJTO. Maybe a phone feed could be arranged?
