Sun Outage Period

Twice each year, satellites are aligned directly between the sun and 
the earth, and the sun's broadcast energy overwhelms the signal being
transmitted by the satellites.  These are known as sun outage periods,
and the autumn sun outage period is upon us (October 1-16).

At some time between 5:10PM and 6:00PM Eastern time in the continental
United States, stations will experience signal distortion and signal
degradation in a window lasting a maximum of about 5 minutes.
