I first heard about this either sometime last week or over the weekend,
possibly even on a WBZ Business Report.

The analysis I heard (very brief, not many details) mentioned that ViaCom was
originally a spin-off of CBS, which at the time was prohibited in
participating in the syndication market.

The same type of "re-absorption" (parent/spin-off reunion) happened a few
years back with the RCA-NBC/GE merger.
